Let me share my personal story…….
Over a decade ago, on arriving in the UK as an international student from Africa, for a Masters in Human Resource Management (HRM).
I was super confident that a postgraduate degree was the ticket I needed to change my life forever, little did I know that it wasn’t going to be that simple.
How could I have guessed that I would fall pregnant soon after my postgraduate degree and end up taking a career break to start a family.
… or spend years after maternity trying to break into the HR field , simply because I lacked UK experience at the time.
…tried sending out 100s of job applications weekly, and was met with constant rejections and the popular… “sorry you have not been successful this time”
I had to settle for temporary agency jobs, which would come few and far between and was earning £7.50/hr. in spite of the stressful and sometimes unpleasant conditions involved.
